Definitief Proberen is a floor installation made from foam mats, commonly found in spaces where injuries may occur or in childcare settings where caregivers ensure safety. I chose this material as a metaphor to explore the saying “it takes a village.”

On the floor, sculptures resembling toys invite playful interaction. These sculptures are made from found objects and are called ‘Groeistuipen’, an old Dutch word describing the physical changes of puberty. The objects reflect the discomfort of relating and connecting, embodying a fragile state of being, and expressing a need for comfort and recognition.
